PHILADELPHIA -- UW had just two runners to serve as an appetizer Thursday to the Penn Relays main course that gets going on Friday. Julia David-Smith raced her first 1,500-meters of the outdoor season and Josephine Welin set a PR in the 5,000-meters.
David-Smith took sixth in the first heat of the 1,500-meters, posting a time of 4:16.18. Welin covered the 5k in 16:13.17, a PR of about 20 seconds.
Friday will feature the Husky DMRs battling for the Championship of America. The women will go first at 11:25 a.m. Pacific time followed by the men at 11:40 a.m.
