
Stephenson Breaks Program Record, Huskies Advance In B1G Tournament

COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 23 Washington women's tennis opened the first round of the Big Ten Tournament with a 4-1 victory over 12-seed Penn State on Thursday afternoon.
With the victory, Robin Stephenson became the all-time winningest head coach in program history with 193. She passed Lisa Moldrem (1984-97) who had 192 in her 14 seasons at the helm.
Penn State opened the match with winning the doubles point following victories on Courts 1 and 3. Despite, the loss, the Huskies had momentum towards the end that they took with them into singles.
Washington opened singles with winning all six first sets for just the second time this season.
Playing in her first match this season at the No. 1 spot, No. 52 Reece Carter was the first Dawg to finish her match, 6-2, 6-2, to tie the match at one point each.
Jermine Sherif added the second Washington point with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at the No. 4 spot.
On Court 6, Karolina Kozakova won her match in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3, to put the Dawgs within one point of victory.
No. 92 Erika Matsuda clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win on Court 2.
