UW Alumni Bring Home 16 Medals From 2026 World Rowing Championships

Washington alumni earned a total of 16 medals over the past week at the 2026 World Rowing Championships in Amsterdam.
A total of 28 Huskies competed at the games, with a number of them rowing in two difference race categories. Four UW athletes claimed gold medals: Americans Teal Cohen '21 (women's four), Chris Carlson '19 (men's four) and Pieter Quinton '21 (men's four); and Dutchman Simon van Dorp '20, who won gold in both the men's double and mixed double sculls.
Those three Americans (Cohen, Carlson and Quinton) all earned a second medal on Sunday, as the United States won the bronze in the mixed eight event.
The Netherlands' Gert-Jan Van Doorn '21 also twice reached the podium with silver medals in the men's four and mixed eight.
Another two Huskes, 2024 Olympic medalists Simon van Dorp '20 and Gert-Jan van Doorn '21, also reached the podium twice. Van Dorp won in in the Dutch
Evan Park '25 was a part of the United States women's quad, which won the bronze medal.
Three more Huskies were in the U.S. women's eight crew that earned a bronze medal in its final: coxswain Nina Castagna '22 and rowers Jess Thoennes '18 and Megan Lee '25.
Finally, two Washington alumni finished on the podium in the men's eight final as Archie Drummond '25 of Great Britain won the silver and Australian coxswain Nick Dunlop '25 led his crew to the bronze.
