SEATTLE – Washington's fourth quarter comeback fell short on Saturday and the Huskies were defeated by Minnesota 27-24.

After allowing two first-quarter touchdowns, Dezmen Roebuck cut the deficit in half in the second quarter, stretching for the pilon for a 16-yard touchdown catch.

Tyler Robles connected on a 33-yard field goal just after the two-minute warning, but UW trailed 21-10 at halftime and a third-quarter field goal increased the Gophers' lead.

Taariq Al-Uqdah intercepted a pass on Minnesota's first possession of the fourth quarter to set up Washington's best offensive drive of the game. Demond Williams Jr. threw a pair of 26-yard completions, highlighted by Roebuck making a nifty one-handed catch to put the Huskies in the red zone.

On fourth and 5, Williams scrambled to avoid pressure and heaved a pass to Baron Naone who secured the 15-yard touchdown catch.

A great defensive stand by the Huskies nearly took Minnesota out of field goal range but the Gophers' kicker connected on a 51-yard field goal to make the score 27-17.

Williams ran for a 13-yard touchdown with 1:59 left in the game to pull the Huskies within three. The ensuing onside kick attempt was recovered by the Gophers, who took the clock down to 3 seconds - too few for UW to secure the win.

Roebuck finished with seven catches for 87 yards and a touchdown. Chris Lawson caught four passes for 77 yards.

After a 3-1 homestand in September, UW embarks on its first road trip of the season. The Huskies face No. 12 USC on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. on NBC.

Fans can purchase tickets to the next home game against No. 17 Iowa. The game is slated for 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9. Weekday transportation will be in effect.
