Men's Golfers Fifth at ASU

TEMPE, Ariz. - Washington's men's golf team completed a season-best round with a 281 Saturday in the second round of the ASU/Thunderbird Invitational . The Huskies carded 295 in during first round to finish the day at even-par on the 7,027-yard Karsten Golf course.
The Huskies were led by freshman Troy Kelly who fired a career-best 68 in the second round to follow a one-under 71 in the first. Kelly finished the day in a three-way tie for fifth. Scott Kral claimed the Huskies best 18-hole score of the day with a season-best 67 in the same round, shaving nine strokes from his first round performance to grab a share of 15th place. Washington All-American candidate Rob Rashell finished just one stroke behind Kral with a 144, tied for 17th. Freshman Gordy Scutt rounded out UW's scoring with a 6-over 150 after two rounds.
Arizona State leads the 54-hole event on its home course after posting 17-under as a team. UCLA's B.J. Schalgenhauf leads the field after firing a pair of 68s. He leads ASU standout Paul Casey by a stroke.
The final round of the tournament will be Sunday, with the action beginning at 8 a.m. at ASU's Karsten Golf Course. It is Washington's final tune-up before it hosts the Pac-10 Championships next week at Broadmoor Golf Club.
