Men's Golfers Finish Eighth at ASU

TEMPE, Ariz. - Washington carded its second-lowest 54-hole total of the season on the way to an eighth place finish at the ASU Invitational. Washington scored 294 in the final round of the 54-hole tournament Sunday at the 7,027-yard Karsten Golf Course.
Freshman standout Troy Kelly posted Washington's best score with a 213 after a 74 in Sunday's final round. Kelly tied with Oregon's Adrian Burtner for 11th, one stroke better than teammate Rob Rashell and Staford's Joel Kribel. Rashell carded his second straight 70 to finish tied for 13th. Scott Kral was next for Washington after a 74 in the final round, earning him a share of 22nd with a 217. Gordy Scutt logged the Huskies remaining third round tally with a 76.
Jeff Quinney set a course record scoring a 10-under-par 62 Sunday in leading ASU to a victory on its home course. PGA star Phil Mickelson held the previous two records at 63 and 65. UCLA's Jeff McGraw was five strokes behind Quinney in second place with a 206.
UCLA claimed the second place spot with an 851, a stroke better than third place California. Oregon and Arizona rounded out the top-5.
Washington plays host to the Pac-10 Championships, beginning Mon., April 26, at Broadmoor Golf Club.
