Huskies Set To Host NCAA Women's Golf West Regional, May 5-7

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Twenty four teams, including the host Washington Huskies, and six individuals will be competing in the NCAA Women's Golf West Regional at Washington National Golf Club starting this Thursday, May 5 and running through Saturday, May 7. The No. 1 overall seed for the championship -- USC -- is among the teams that will be playing a total of 54 holes at the Husky golf program's home course in Auburn, Wash.
Each squad will field teams of five competitors with the top four scores counting towards the team total. The top eight teams and top two individuals on non-advancing squads will all move onto the NCAA Championship being held at Texas A&M's Legends Course from May 18-21.
THE COURSE
Participants will play at Washington National Golf Club, a par-72, 6,266-yard course that is located about 40 minutes south of Seattle. The course is home to the Washington men's and women's golf teams. It has twice before hosted NCAA Championship in 2002 (won by Duke) and the NCAA West Regional in 2006 (won by Purdue). Parking and admission to the event are free.

THE HUSKIES
The Huskies are making their 18th NCAA Regional appearance in 28 years under the guidance of head coach Mary Lou Mulflur. Washington has advanced to the NCAA Championship 10 times. The UW lineup will consist of two seniors, Anya Alvarez and Karinn Dickinson, junior Sadena Parks, and a pair of freshmen, Kelli Bowers and A Ram Choi. Alvarez was honorable mention All-Pac-10.
Washington is the No. 13 seed and is currently ranked 38th by Golfstat.com and 39th by Golfweek.com. Alvarez is the nation's No. 57 ranked player by Golfstat.com and 61st by Golfweek.com.

Anya Alvarez - Senior, Jenks, Okla.
Has played in nine event and placed first or second among UW finishers in eight of those events.
Teams top finisher in six events.
Four Top-10 finishes this season, including season-best 3rd twice.
Averaging a career-best 73.76 strokes per round, which is the third-best average in UW history.
Shot a season-best 67 in the final round of the Peg Barnard Invitational.
Her career-low 203 in 2008 at the Las Vegas Showdown ranks as the school's lowest 54-hole score in team history.
Has played in 115 rounds during her career, the 9th most in UW team history.
Kelli Bowers - Freshman, Chelan, Wash.
Ranks third on team with 76.25 scoring average per round.
Was Huskies top finisher in her collegiate debut at the Washington State Invitational at Palouse Ridge.
Career-best team tournament 7th place finish came in collegiate debut at WSU Invitational.
Took second at 36-hole Gonzaga Spring Invitational, finishing behind teammate Darcie Richmond.
Shot a season-best 54-hole score of 221 at the Pac-10/SEC Challenge.
Four top-25 finishes in 10 events competed.
Four-time 1A Washington State HS Champion from 2007-10 at Chelan.
First Team All-State in 1A classification in volleyball (2009) and basketball (2010).

Has appeared in 10 events, two as an individual competitor.
Finished a season-best fifth at the Gonzaga Spring Invitational, an individual event.
Fired a season-low 70 (-1) in the second round of the Peg Barnard Invitational to finish 16th out of 70 competitors.
Career-best 54-hole score of 231 (+18) came during the Pac-10/SEC Challenge.
Was third among Huskies at the Pac-10 Championships.
Karinn Dickinson - Senior, Mulkiteo, Wash.
Has played in nine events and placed first or second among UW finishers in five of those events.
Finished top-15 in first three events of fall season and top-25 in all four fall events.
Collected second career win, tying for medalist honors at the WSU Invitational.
Shot a career-best 68 (-4) in the first round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown.
Has competed in 107 rounds during her career, which is just outside of the top-10 all-time in UW history.
Lived 10 years in Asker, Norway and was the 2006 Norwegian Junior National Champion.
Father Kenneth played basketball at Washington.
Sadena Parks - Junior, Bethel, Wash.
Has six top-25 finishes in 10 events this season.
Scoring average of 76.17 ranks second on the team.
Was UW's top finisher at the Pac-10 Championship, tying for 19th.
Career-best 8th place finish at Peg Barnard Invitational.
Fired a career-low tying 70 (-2) in the first round of the Edean Ihlandfeldt Invitational and ended up 11th on the final leaderboard.
Best 54-hole score 219 came in the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational at Tacoma Country Club.
Won Washington State 4A High School Championship as a senior in 2008 and junior in 2007.
