2023-24 (Senior)
- Won the ITA Rafael Osuna Sportsmanship Award for the Northwest Region, just the third Husky to win the honor
- Tied for the team lead in dual singles wins in his final season, going 10-9, including a 9-8 record at No. 3 singles and 1-1 record at No. 2
- Put together a six-match winning streak spanning all of February, including wins over Bjorn Swenson on No. 11 Michigan, an upset of 52nd-ranked Iiro Vasa on 18th-ranked San Diego, and another ranked win over No. 107 Melvin Manuel of Arkansas
- Earned three set win over Linus C Halldin of No. 39 Pepperdine, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3
- Was 3-7 in dual doubles matches and 5-10 overall
- Had a 6-0 win at No. 3 doubles with Brett Pearson over Hudson/Frizelle of South Florida
- Two wins with Jim Hendrikx at No. 3 doubles over Portland and Gonzaga pairs
- In the fall was 2-6 in singles play and 2-3 in doubles
- Earned ITA All-Academic honors
2022-23 (Junior)
- Rose to the No. 1 singles spot for the Huskies and earned All-Pac-12 Second Team honors.
- Was 15-17 in singles play overall and 7-12 in dual matches, all at the No. 1 position.
- Was 2-0 against Oregon’s No. 1, Joshua Charlton, getting a huge 6-4, 7-5 win in Eugene to break the 3-3 tie and give the Huskies the road win
- A ranked win over Portland’s No. 86 Sema Pankin, 6-4, 6-1, on Mar. 10
- Twelve of his final 13 matches were against ranked opponents.
- In doubles, was 13-12 overall and 10-10 in dual matches. Played most of the season with Jim Hendrikx, as the two went 9-8, all at No. 3 doubles.
- With Hendrikx, had key doubles wins over Liberty’s Miguel/Thomas-Smith (7-6 in a 2-1 doubles point), Oklahoma State’s Allen/Pini (7-5 in a 2-1 doubles point), Oregon’s Klov-Nilsson/Vandecasteele (6-4 in a 2-1 doubles point), and Utah’s Bastias/Caula (6-3 in a 2-0 doubles point)
- Ended the season teaming with Brett Pearson, going 1-2 at No. 3, with a 7-6 (4) win over Matta/Banerjee of Stanford in the 2-1 doubles point win that led to a 4-1 upset.
2021-22 (Sophomore)
- Helped the Huskies advance to the NCAA first round, playing in the middle of the singles lineup
- Went 13-12 in dual singles matches, going 1-0 at No. 2 singles, 5-0 at No. 3, and 7-12 at No. 4, and was 2-2 in tournament play
- Had the clinching win in UW’s Pac-12 Championship first round win over Oregon, beating Jesper Klov-Nilsson, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, to spark UW’s run to the final
- A comeback win over Arizona State’s George Stoupe, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 4
- Another win over Klov-Nilsson, when he was ranked 124th, in UW’s Mar. 5 victory over the Ducks
- In doubles, was 7-5 for the year, 6-3 in dual matches, including going 2-1 at No. 1 doubles with Jack Davis, and 4-2 at No. 3 doubles with Cesar Bouchelaghem and Jack Pulliam
- With Davis, had No. 1 doubles wins over Seattle U. and Eastern Washington
- With Bouchelaghem, had two No. 3 doubles wins over Oregon, one on Mar. 5 and another on Apr. 20, and another Pac-12 win over Arizona State’s Cigna/Salle
2020-21 (Freshman)
- A significant contributor in his freshman season, starting in both singles and doubles … went 12-10 in singles matches, including 2-0 at No. 3 singles and 10-10 at No. 4
- Won six of his first seven dual matches, including a 6-4, 6-4 win over Stefan Hampe of Tulsa, and a 7-6 (8), 6-3 win over Oregon’s Brandon Lam
- A huge clinching win to break 3-3 tie in first road win of the year at UC Santa Barbara, beating Victor Krustev, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4
- Beat San Diego State’s Aaro Pollanen, 6-4, 6-2, in another 4-3 Husky win
- A 7-6, 6-7 (10-4) win over Oregon’s Jesper Klov-Nilsson in 6-1 UW win
- Two Pac-12 losses came in third set super-tiebreaks against No. 54 Filip Malbasic of Arizona and Ben Goldberg of UCLA
- In doubles, was 10-7 in dual play, all with Ewen Lumsden, going 1-0 at No. 2 and 10-7 at No. 3
- With Lumsden, had wins over Pac-12 foes from Oregon (6-2 vs Coste/Klov-Nilsson), Arizona State (6-2 vs Lerby/Hoffmann), and again against Oregon (6-1 vs Lam/Matsushita)
Personal Notes
Born in Chiayi, Taiwan … goes by “Hans” … parents are Qui-Ping and Han-Chun Chu … has two older siblings … ranked as top junior player in Taiwan prior to coming to UW ... best world ITF ranking in juniors is No. 88 ... reached the quarterfinals or better six times in J2 ITF tournaments around the world ... named to Taiwan/Chinese Taipei's Davis Cup team for tie against Ukraine in March of 2020.
