Latara King enters her sixth season as associate head coach for the Washington women's basketball program in 2026–27 and her ninth season working alongside head coach Tina Langley. With more than 15 years of coaching experience, King has played a pivotal role in program turnarounds, championship runs, and Washington's return to national prominence.
During her five seasons on Montlake, King has helped guide the Huskies to consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances (2025, 2026), their first AP Top 25 ranking since 2017, and one of the nation's largest single-season improvements with a 12-win increase in 2022–23. Washington also recorded four victories over AP-ranked opponents in 2023–24, including road wins over No. 21 Washington State, No. 11 USC, and No. 18 Utah — marking the first time in program history the Huskies defeated three ranked teams on the road in a single season. The year also featured a home victory over No. 9 Oregon State.
In 2025–26, Washington achieved a program-best No. 22 NET ranking while posting its highest win total (22), most conference victories (10), road wins (7), and home wins (13) since the 2016–17 season.
King's impact has earned national recognition. She was one of 33 coaches selected for the 2026 WBCA Next Generation Institute and was named one of the Most Impactful High-Major Assistants in Division I Women's Basketball by Silver Waves Media in 2023.
Working closely with Washington's student-athletes, King contributes to player development, scouting, game preparation, and practice planning. During her tenure, eight Huskies have earned All-Conference or Honorable Mention recognition across the Pac-12 and Big Ten. King also directs the program's recruiting efforts, overseeing both domestic and international outreach. She helped secure three top 15 recruiting classes during her first five seasons at Washington and continues to play a central role in attracting elite talent to Montlake.
Before arriving at Washington, King spent three seasons on Langley's staff at Rice, helping the Owls capture three consecutive Conference USA championships. In her first season, Rice posted a 28-win campaign and a perfect 16-0 conference record while returning to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 14 years. The Owls capped King's tenure by winning the first WNIT championship in program history.
Prior to Rice, King served as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Monmouth and Boston College. At Monmouth, she helped recruit and develop three All-Conference selections, an All-Freshman Team honoree, an All-Defensive Team selection, and three All-MAAC Academic Team members.
King began her coaching career as an assistant coach at Florida Memorial University in 2010 before joining Florida State as a graduate assistant from 2013–15. During her time with the Seminoles, Florida State advanced to two NCAA Tournaments, including an Elite Eight appearance.
A native of Coral Springs, Florida, King was a three-year starter and team captain at Florida Memorial University. She helped lead the program to a Sun Conference championship and a Division II National Tournament appearance during her senior season. King earned her bachelor's degree in biology in 2010 and is a member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
