Husky guards Megan Franza and Loree Payne each moved up on the UW's
all-time single-season scoring list. Payne, a freshman, had 23 points to
give her 521 for the 1999-2000 season, placing her seventh on the all-time
list, while Franza's 17 points today moved her to eighth with 515.
With 23 points tonight, Husky freshman Loree Payne recorded her ninth
20-point game of the year.
UCLA forward Maylana Martin won the 1999-2000 Pac-10 scoring title with
24 points tonight, and added 12 rebounds for her eighth double-double this
year. She passed Oregon's Shaquala Williams, who scored 13 points against
Oregon State Friday night.
Washington held a 40-38 lead at the half, and widened the lead to 44-38
with 18:56 remaining before UCLA buried the Huskies with a 20-0 run over
the next 7:34.
UCLA's stifling defense, which has held opponents to 39 percent shooting
on average this year, held Washington to just 30 percent on 21 of 70
shooting.
The Bruins are now 12-0 when scoring 80 points or more.
Washington's 44 rebounds were its third highest of 1999-2000, including a
season record-tying 22 offensive boards. LeAnn Sheets led the way on the
offensive glass for Washington with six rebounds.
