SEATTLE - UW junior Kim DePaul knocked another two-out, bases-loaded double in the bottom of the sixth inning to score two runs and lift No. 1 Washington to a 3-1 win over third-ranked UCLA on Friday before 1,408 fans. UW (47-4, 9-1) and the Bruins (32-7-1, 7-3) will square off again tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Husky Softball Stadium.

After three scoreless innings, UCLA used two walks, a hit and an error to score Lyndsey Klein in the top of the fourth. But Rosie Leutzinger led off the bottom of the inning with her first-ever home run at Husky Softball Stadium, second of the year, and third of her career to even the count.

UW loaded the bases in the sixth. Leutzinger walked and Kelly Hauxhurst reached first on a fielder's choice sacrifice hit when the Bruins tried to throw Leutzinger out at first. Jenny Topping drew a walk to set up DePaul's second game-winning double in as many weekends, doing the same to Arizona last Saturday.

The Bruins got a hit in the seventh, and a fielder's choice put the runner out on second before an unclear ruling ended the game. With two outs, a runner on first and the count at 2-2, Natasha Watley swung but was hit by the pitch, causing confusion about whether she was out or should be awarded first base. The plate umpire called a hit by pitch, but when the first-base umpire was asked if Watley swung, he ruled that she had and therefore struck out.

Jamie Graves struck out five in 4.1 innings before Jennifer Spediacci (26-1) relieved her in the fifth and picked up the win.
