EUGENE, Ore. -- Oregon scored the game-winner on a two-out throwing error by Washington third baseman Brooke Woodward to take the 2-1, 11-inning victory Sunday on "Senior Day" at Howe Field. The loss drops the Huskies to 32-20 and 6-12 in the Pac-10, while Oregon improves to 24-24 overall and 4-12 in conference play.
Oregon jumped on the scoreboard in the third inning with a sacrifice fly by senior Beth Boskovich. The hit to centerfield scored Sari-Jane Jenkins who had reach base on an infield single.
The Huskies worked some seventh-inning two-out magic for the second consecutive day, scoring one run on three hits to push the game into extra-innings. Senior Sarah Hyatt led off with a single over the third baseman and Dena Tyson followed with a single to right field. After a pair of Husky strikeouts, sophomore Lauren Greer laced a single into right field to score pinch runner Marnie Koziol from second base and knot the score 1-1.
UW hurler Caitlin Noble held the Ducks hitless through the next five innings before Boskovich hit a one-out single up the middle in the 11th. Lovena Chaput walked and Kayleen Hudson singled through the left side to load the bases. Joanna Gail then hit a ground ball to third base but Woodward's throw to first was in the dirt and Hyatt could not make the scoop. Boskovich scored the game-winning run.
Noble (12-8) took the tough loss as she held Oregon to two runs on six hits with 14 strikeouts over 10.2 innings of work. Reliever Melissa Rice (8-5) earned the win as she held Washington to no runs and no hits with one strikeout over two innings.
The Huskies close out the Pac-10 season next week on the road. Washington will play at Stanford on May 11 before taking on California on May 12 and 13 in the Pac-10 finale.
