LAS VEGAS, Nev. -- Competing against one of the toughest fields it will see all season, 31st-ranked Washington men's golf moved up one spot to 13th after the second round of the Southern Highlands Collegiate Championship, Saturday. As a team, the Huskies shot 17-over 305 in the second round and will enter Sunday's final 18 holes at 28-over 604 overall.
UW's upperclassmen continued to lead the way, with senior Alex Prugh and junior Zach Bixler carding rounds of 3-over 75 in the second round after doing so in the first round, Friday. Prugh and Bixler are tied for 32nd in the individual standings at 6-over 150 overall. Senior Erik Olson is just one stroke behind his teammates at 7-over 151. Olson shot a 6-over 78 in the second round, faltering a bit after carding a 1-over 73 in the first round.
Rounding out Washington's lineup, freshman Nick Taylor shot a 5-over 77 for the second straight round and is tied for 56th at 10-over 154. Sophomore John Wise sits in 75th place at 14-over 158 (76-82).
No. 3 Georgia leapfrogged No. 13 UCLA after the second round and leads the team face by seven strokes (8-over 584). The Bruins sit in second-place at 11-over 587 and No. 2 Florida is in third place at 15-over 591.
Four players are tied for the individual lead at 3-under 141 - Georgia Tech's Roberto Castro, Florida's Billy Horschel, UCLA's Lucas Lee and Texas A&M's Martin Piller.
Host UNLV turned in the best round of the day, catapulting from 15th into a tie for sixth in the team standings after shooting 3-over 291 on Saturday.
The tournament wraps up with the final round, Sunday, beginning at 8 a.m. PST.
