PORTLAND, Ore. - Ashlyn Watson hit a two-run home run and Alicia Blake went 3-for-3 to lead the No. 20 Washington Huskies past Northern Illinois, 4-1, at the Cascade Clash on Friday evening.
The game, which was delayed by an hour due to rain, was stopped after five innings because of poor field conditions.
Washington (17-6-1) scored two runs in the top of the first inning and later added two runs in the third on Watson's third home run of the season, a deep shot over the centerfield fence.
The Huskies struck first on an RBI-single by Jace Williams that brought home Marnie Koziol from second. Koziol had reached on a walk and then stole second before Williams lined a 1-0 pitch back up the middle. Blake then delivered a double to centerfield to bring home Williams.
Caitlin Noble pitched all five innings for the UW, giving up six hits and striking out four to improve to 10-3.
Washington finished with six hits in the game, with Bailey Stenson going 1-for-3 and adding a stolen base.
Washington continues play in the Cascade Clash with a 1 p.m. game tomorrow against Mississippi Valley State.
