LEXINGTON, Kent. - Washington's top three attackers were each named to the All-Pacific Region Team today by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Outside hitters Kindra Carlson and Becky Perry, and middle blocker Bianca Rowland were each voted to the 14-person first team, thus making them eligible for AVCA All-America honors.
The Pacific Region Team is even more selective than the All-Pac-10 Team, as the Pacific Region includes the entire Pac-10 conference as well as the West Coast Conference and Big Sky Conference. Carlson and Perry were also named to the All-Pac-10 Team last week while Rowland was an honorable mention.
Carlson, a senior out of Eaton, Colorado, is averaging career-highs in kills and points while hitting a career-best .315. Her 4.81 points per set ranks 21st nationally and is especially impressive for a rightside attacker. Carlson now ranks ninth in UW history in career kills. She was an All-Pacific Region selection in 2009 as well before earning AVCA Second Team All-America honors.
Perry is on the All-Pacific Region Team for the first time this year after being named honorable mention in 2008. The Austin, Texas native is just 10 kills behind Carlson, in 10th-place on the UW career list. She was just named to the All-Pac-10 Team for the second time in her career. The senior's 4.35 points per set this season are a career-best. Her 19 aces this year are more than her previous three years combined, and her 1.98 digs per set average is well above her previous season-best of 1.45.
Rowland is on the team for the second year in a row, and was an AVCA All-America honorable mention last season. One of the most efficient hitters in the nation the past two years, Rowland ranks 10th nationally with a .410 attack percentage. Her 2.67 kills per set is a career-best and her 1.10 blocks per set ranks seventh in the Pac-10. The junior out of Lynnwood, Washington was named an All-Pac-10 honorable mention last week.
