Opening Statement
Coming off the Arizona weekend, we wanted to put ourselves in a position to not make it about the last possession and I know earlier this week, I shared that with you all. I just was really proud of the way the team just came out and competed. Anyone who came into the game battled and it was just a tremendous effort by us to force a really good 3-point shooting team into making only five is just an exceptional defensive job on our part. I'm just really proud of what they did. I love how we stayed together and, more than anything, just down the stretch, how important it was to get those defensive stops. I'm just really, really proud of their effort.
On the atmosphere and crowd today
They were awesome, weren't they? I remember just the defensive stop that we needed, the hair on my arms stood up because I could hear the electricity in the room, I could feel it. They just got loud and we got the defensive stop and it got even louder. It was just amazing. So, here's a challenge to everyone listening: Get back here next weekend. Thursday and Saturday against the Oregon schools. Thank you.
On how it feels to win against WSU especially
It means a lot. We're in-state rivals so we go extra hard against this team. Any game, we play as hard as we possibly can. Our pride really starts to kick in.
On how they felt during WSU's run in the last 3 minutes
I think it's good that we got that ["chill out"] talk. We just needed to remember to stay together as a team and to stay focused. We needed to remember we were in control and were up. We just needed to take care of the ball and make good decisions and we hit some big baskets that really helped us.
On whether her emotions were higher against WSU
No, I kind of play like that with any team or any opponent. The in-state rivalry is just pride and I think that just showed more than anything.
On the run WSU went on in the last 3 minutes
We didn't panic. Coach always tells us that basketball is about runs and when they went on a run, we had a little talk and said we just needed to stick together. We were still up and we just had to play our game. Just playing together got us this win, actually, because we played like a team. We were looking for each other and it was amazing.
