STANFORD, Calif. -- On the heels of a 1-over 285 in the second round of the Stanford Intercollegiate hosted by Condeleezza Rice, the Husky women's golf team moved up from sixth to second on the leaderboard and enters Sunday's final round within striking distance of the leaders.

Washington is 7 over for the tournament and trails USC by four strokes and leads third-place Oklahoma State and Oregon State by two shots. The Huskies entered the tournament 43-1 head-to-head on the season and has two wins, plus a second-place finish.

After shooting 290 in Friday's first round, including 9-over after six holes, the Huskies -- ranked No. 2 by Golfstat.com and No. 1 by Golfweek -- jumped off to a much better start on Saturday. UW was even through the first six holes and ended up tied with USC for the best team score of the day.

"It was a good day today," Husky Coach Mary Lou Mulflur said from the Bay Area. "It was a total team effort and I'm really proud of them.

"The 18th hole got to us a little bit, but we fought and hung in there. They didn't let anything bother them."

Defending tournament champion SooBin Kim led the Huskies' efforts on Saturday at Stanford Golf Course, shooting 3-under 68. Kim's round put her right back into contention after she shot 1-over 71 on Friday, leaving her 2 under overall and two strokes behind the leader.

Kyung Kim of USC leads through 36 holes at 4 under. She shot an impressive 66 on Saturday.

USC's Doris Chen and Kelsey Vines of Oklahoma State are one shot back at 3 under.

Among Huskies, Charlotte Thomas and Ying Luo are tied for 25th and Cyd Okino and Kelli Bowers are tied for 36th.

Bowers had the second best round of the day among Huskies with an even-par 71. She and Okino are each at 148 through two rounds (+6).

Okino and Luo each shot 73. Thomas shot a non-counting 76.

"Charlotte kind of had an off day, but her teammates picked her up. Those are the kinds of things we are looking for," Mulflur said of her freshman, who entered Saturday's round tied for fourth.

Thomas and Luo are both +4 for the tournament.

The Huskies will tee off starting at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday. They will be paired with USC and Oklahoma State.

"We know we have a good team in front of us and it should be a good battle tomorrow," Mulflur said in reference to third-ranked USC.

"We'll just go out and do the best that we can do."
