SEATTLE - On a nice sunny day in Seattle, UW wrapped up its third pre-season tournament title, going a perfect 4-0 in the Husky Softball Classic with two wins on Sunday.
The Huskies improved to 23-1 on the year with a 12-4 five-inning victory over North Dakota and a 4-0 win over Seattle U.
"It was great to play at home for the first time this season," said head coach Heather Tarr. "Our support staff did an awesome job making sure all the games got played. We saw a lot out of the team this weekend and have some good things to work on in the coming weeks."
In the first game of the day, North Dakota split the weekend series with SU, defeating the Redhawks 7-6 in eight innings.
Game One - No. 4/3 UW 12, North Dakota 4 (5 innings)
The UW offense exploded in the second inning vs. North Dakota, scoring 11 runs, 12 total in the game on 11 hits. Freshman Kylee Lahners (Laguna Hills, Calif.) led the way with three runs, three hits and two RBI, including the game-ending solo home run in the bottom of the fifth.
Senior Kimi Pohlman (Sammamish, Wash.) also had two hits. Junior catcher Shawna Wright (Lancaster, Calif.) had the biggest hit of the day, her first career grand slam in the second. It was the first Husky grand slam since current senior Taylor Smith (Olympia, Wash.) hit two against Purdue in 2010.
"It was great to get all four games in this weekend at home," Pohlman said. "It's always fun playing in front of our fans. It will be great to carry this momentum into our next tournament."
Seven different Huskies scored runs and had hits and five had RBI.
Freshman pitcher Kasey Stanchek (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) improved to 6-0 in the circle, allowing just one run on one hit in 3.0 innings. Sophomore Bryana Walker (La Quinta, Calif.) pitched the final 2.0 innings, allowing two earned runs, three total, on five hits.
The Sioux used three pitchers and combined only allowed three earned runs as their defense had two errors.
Game Two - No. 4/3 UW 4, Seattle U 0
UW was on fire in the second inning also in game two, scoring three of its four runs in that frame. The final UW run came in the sixth.
Sophomore Kaitlin Inglesby (Portland, Ore.) improved to 12-0 in the circle, allowing four hits and striking out 11.
The Huskies had five hits off of SU starter Richelle Ashburn who fell to 2-3 on the year.

Fagaly hit her first home run of 2012 in the sixth for the final UW run of the game.
