
Huskies Sweep Final Pre-Season Doubleheader

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - UW finished a successful road trip with a doubleheader sweep over Cal State Bakersfield on Monday afternoon. UW took both games in five innings, 12-0 and 15-4. The No. 3/3 Huskies improved to 29-1 on the season.
UW scored a total of 27 runs and had 28 hits in 10 innings and allowed just seven hits and four runs by CSUB. The Huskies scored in all but one of the 10 innings. These were the final two pre-season games before the Huskies host Utah this weekend to open Pac-12 play.
Game One - No. 3/3 Washington 12, Cal State Bakersfield 0 (5 innings)
Sophomore Bryana Walker (La Quinta, Calif.) got the start in game one, pitching the first 3.0 innings and allowing just one hit. Freshman Kasey Stanchek entered in relief and pitched 2.0 shutout innings. Walker improves to 7-1 in the circle.
Sophomore Victoria Hayward (Mountain View, Calif.) had a team-high three hits and two runs. Senior Kimi Pohlman (Sammamish, Wash.) had two runs and two hits. Sophomore Marki Creger-Zier (Steilacoom, Wash.) had three runs, one hit and one RBI.
With the bases loaded and two outs in the first, senior Taylor Smith (Olympia, Wash.) hit a two-run double up the middle. Freshman Kimberlee Souza (Waialua, Hawai'i) hit a two-RBI single of her own to left-center.
Sophomore Kaitlin Inglesby (Portland, Ore.) drove in Pohlman on a single to left in the second. Creger-Zier would score on a single up the middle by starting catcher Lindsay Monk (Menifee, Calif.).
In the third, Hayward and Creger-Zier scored on an error after a triple by Creger-Zier.
The fourth inning of game one was the only inning of the day that UW didn't score.
Laura King had the only hit of the game for CSUB.
The Huskies added four runs in the fifth as senior Jenna Clifton (Glendale, Ariz.) hit a two-RBI double down the left field line. Sophomore Whitney Jones (Upland, Calif.) reached on an error but was credited with the final two RBI.
Game Two - No. 3/3 UW 15, Cal State Bakersfield 4 (5 innings)
UW had 16 hits in game two, scoring at least two runs in each inning with three in the first and second, two in the third, four in the fourth, and three more in the fifth to hang on to the eight-run lead and end the game in five.
Freshman Kylee Lahners (Laguna Hills, Calif.) had four hits, four RBI and two runs in the game. Senior Nikia Williams (Mission Viejo, Calif.) had three runs, one hit, one RBI and two walks. Pohlman had three hits and two runs and sophomore Hooch Fagaly (Chino, Calif.) had two runs, two hits and drove in two.
Inglesby improved to 15-0 in the circle, pitching 4.0 innings and allowing just one earned run on six hits. Stanchek pitched the final inning, allowing just one hit.
Lahners got her first two RBI on a double to center in the first. A single to left by junior Jerrin Fa'asua (Oceanside, Calif.) put UW up 3-0.
CSUB got its first run of the day against the Huskies, an unearned run in the first.
Pohlman scored the first run of the second on an error and Lahners hit another two-run double to put UW up 6-1.
Junior Shawna Wright (Lancaster, Calif.) hit her third home run of the season on the first pitch of the third inning. The very next pitch, Fagaly also hit a solo home run to center, her second of the year.
Singles by Lahners, Fa'asua and Fagaly drove in another run and then Inglesby hit her fifth home run of the year to left field.
The Runners got three runs in the fourth, just one earned.
Williams singled up the middle as Pohlman scored in the fifth. The bases were loaded for Fa'asua who hit a sacrifice fly to right. Wright then drove in the last run with a sac fly of her own that just missed going over the fence.
