SEATTLE - On another beautiful sunny day at Husky Softball Stadium, the No. 7/8 UW softball team took game three of the series vs. No. 16/17 UCLA, 5-2.
UW improves to 35-9 on the year and 6-8 in the Pac-12 while UCLA is 29-12, 6-6.
Sophomore Kaitlin Inglesby, who got the start for UW in all three games, got a win in the series finale, pitching a complete game, allowing just two runs on four hits. She had nine strikeouts, just two shy of a career-best. Ally Carda got the start for UCLA but was quickly replaced by Jessica Hall who took the loss, allowing all five runs in 5.0 innings.
Inglesby (Portland, Ore.) also had a huge day at the plate for the Huskies, with a hit and three RBI. Senior Kimi Pohlman (Sammamish, Wash.) went back to her leadoff spot and had two hits and an RBI.
All five UW runs came in the fifth. The inning started as sophomore Hooch Fagaly (Chino, Calif.) was hit by pitch. Marki Creger-Zier (Steilacoom, Wash.) pinch ran and stole her sixth base of the year to get in scoring position. Junior Jerrin Fa'asua (Oceanside, Calif.) got a bunt single just in front of the plate to put runners at the corners with none out for Pohlman.
Fa'asua stole second and Pohlman doubled between the 5-6 hole as Creger-Zier scored, Sophomore Victoria Hayward (Mountain View, Calif.) walked to load bases for senior Nikia Williams. Williams (Mission Viejo, Calif.) who singled to right just in front of B.B. Bates as Fa'asua scored. Inglesby hit a bases clearing double to center field wall as UW went up 5-0 with still no outs. However, Hall would get the final three outs before anymore runs came across.
The two UCLA runs came in the sixth as Katie Schroeder walked and Stephany LaRosa singled to left leading off the inning. A wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position. Andrea Harrison hit a slow trickling single down the first base line as the bases were loaded for Bates.
The Husky defense came up huge, getting a double play on a ball hit back to Inglesby, 1-2-3. Dan Yudin hit a two-RBI single to center but was thrown out at second to end the inning and the Bruin rally.
UW will head to Corvallis, Ore., next weekend to face the nationally-ranked Beavers, Friday-Sunday.
