SAN DIEGO - The No. 18/16 UW softball team dropped two close games on Saturday in the Campbell/Cartier Classic at San Diego State. No. 2/1 Oklahoma shutout the Huskies 2-0 before Cal Poly did the same in the night game.
Game One - No. 2/1 Oklahoma 2, No. 18/16 Washington 0
In a tight pitchers dual between two top 20 teams, Oklahoma (9-0) scored twice in the third inning and held off a last inning Washington (5-5) rally.
Lauren Chamberlain hit a two-run home run in bottom of third against Bryana Walker with Brianna Turang on base and that would be all the Sooners needed in the game.
In the top of the seventh and down to their final three outs, the Huskies put the go-ahead run at the plate. Juniors Kaitlin Inglesby and Hooch Fagaly singled but Michelle Gascoigne had two of her 10 strikeouts in the game in the inning to finish off the Huskies and pick up the shutout.
Oklahoma had six hits off of Husky start Walker (3-2) who pitched the complete game.
The Huskies had three hits in the game.
Game Two - Cal Poly 2, No. 18/16 Washington 0
Game two of the day for the Huskies was very similar to game one, a 2-0 shutout. Junior Victoria Hayward had two hits and Fagaly had the third.
Inglesby got the start and allowed one earned run on five hits in 7.0 innings. Chloe Wurst got the complete game shutout victory for the Mustangs, allowing three hits and one walk with seven strikeouts.
The game was scoreless until the sixth. A single up the middle by Celina Lafrades drove in a runner who reached on a fielder's choice and a Mariah Cochiolo single up the middle brought home the second run.
Washington will conclude play in San Diego on Sunday at 11:15 a.m. against UC Riverside.
