Voted the team's Most Valuable Defensive Player ... . 2002 (Sophomore) - Played 19 games, starting 17 of them ... Ranked fifth on the team with three goals ... Scored against Duke (Sept. 6), Harvard (Sept. 20) and California (Oct. 25) ... Netted a "golden goal" in the 106th minute of overtime, lifting UW to a 4-3 win over No. 17 Duke (Sept. 6) ... That tally was voted as the team's Goal of the Year ... Converted three of her 11 shots into goals. 2001 (Freshman) - One of only two players to start all 20 games, joining Jaime Carstensen ... Attempted only six shots while concentrating on defense ... Scored her lone goal of the season on Nov. 9, helping the Huskies tied Oregon 1-1 ... Voted the squad's Defensive MVP and the Rookie of the Year by her teammates.
Redmond High School: The 2000 Gatorade State Player of the Year, honoring the top prep player in Washington state ... A first team All-KingCo Conference selection as junior and senior... Was a goalkeeper her sophomore season, recording a 0.58 goals against average in 550 minutes between the posts ... Served as team captain during her senior season.
Coach Gallimore on Martinez: "Nicole is a gamer and she is going back for her final year at center back. Patch her up and put her right back out there, she seems to be able to manage. Her speed, her touch, her timing on tackles, just her ability to get it done every day is really irreplaceable for us. We are just crossing our fingers and hoping that she is healthy enough to go at the start of the season because she has been pushing so hard in the off-season. For her to get back, fitness-wise, and not have the kind of fear of pain that is associated with her injury so that she can just get back to playing and not worrying about getting hurt. She's got all the speed in the world, she's great in the air and she's technically a great player."
