VALENCIA, Calif. - Charlotte Thomas and SooBin Kim each birdied the final hole on Tuesday at Valencia Country Club to propel the Huskies one stroke ahead of Arizona and into third place heading to the final round of action for the 2013 Pac-12 Women's Golf Championship.

Washington started the day third on the leaderboard and remains there, trailing only USC and UCLA. If the Huskies can hold their ground they will equal their best Pac-12 Championship finish of third in 1988.
The Huskies shot 291 in the second round and are +8 through 36 holes with a combined score of 584. They trail first-place USC by 13 strokes and second-place UCLA by two.
While third would be great for the Huskies -- especially with such an inexperienced roster consisting of three sophomores and two freshmen -- the team is still keeping its eye on the Los Angeles schools.
"We're still within striking distance," Husky coach Mary Lou Mulflur said following her team's round. "It's doable. I think they're in a good place and they can definitely get it done."
Arizona combined to shoot the low round of the day with a 4-under 284. The Wildcats momentarily overtook the Huskies on the leaderboard before Thomas and Kim finished with a flourish.
Mulflur feels that the birdie finishes by the two Husky leaders was monumental in helping her team as they head to tomorrow's final round.
"It definitely helps mentally," Mulflur said. "We needed to play that hole well after struggling yesterday, so from a psychological standpoint it's nice to finish the round like that."
Arizona State is fifth among teams, six strokes back of the Huskies. Oregon (+17) is sixth, followed by Stanford (+18), Oregon State (+24), Colorado (+33), California (+34) and Washington State (+53).
Annie Park of USC and Mariah Stackhouse of Stanford are co-leaders in the individual race at -4 (140).
Thomas is three strokes back of the leaders with a total of 143 (-1). She is tied with three others at sixth.
The freshman ended up with the low round among Huskies, shooting 70 at the par-72 course. Thomas had four totals birdies on the day, along with a pair of bogeys.
Kim finished the day with her second-consecutive round of 72. She is tied for 10th with a score of 144.
Jennifer Yang shot 1-over 73 and is tied for 17th. The sophomore is 4 over for the tournament with a two-day score of 149.
Freshman Ying Luo was four over on the day to end up with a 76. She is tied for 23rd with a two-day total of 149 (+5).
Cyd Okino ended up with a non-counting 81. She is tied for 59th with a total of 160.
Washington will be paired with Arizona in the final round on Wednesday. They will tee off from No. 1 starting at 8:40 a.m.
