Huskies Roll Past Saint Martin's, 88-65, in Exhibition Game

Washington was led by senior Shawn Kemp Jr., who tallied 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting from the field. Kemp, Jr. was slowed last season by his Graves Disease diagnosis but any doubts of his health and strength were erased with his strong showing.
“Shawn played with a lot of confidence,” said head coach Lorenzo Romar. “Give our guys credit, they went inside and got him the ball. When he is down there posting up, he is posting up like he wants it. He is going to do something with it and he finished real well.”
Kemp scored the first four points for the Dawgs who were facing a Saint Martin's team that came out unafraid of their Pac-12 opponent. The Saints kept it close through the first 13 minutes before the Husky defense clamped down and held Saint Martin's with just one FG over the final six minutes as UW took a 44-27 lead into the half.
“That team tested us in that regard in the motion that they move,” added Romar. “They spread us out and they did a good job of that. They were very deliberate and we still continued to try and pressure. For the most part I think we did a pretty good job of communicating and remaining patient to play the defense that we wanted to play.”
The Huskies maintained the lead through the second half only letting Saint Martin's get within 12 once. The co-captains combined for 23 points and 14 assists as Nigel Williams-Goss put up 10 and nine and Andrew Andrews tallied 13 and five.
Sophomore Darin Johnson chipped in 11 while newcomers Donaven Dorsey and Quevyn Winters added 11 and 10 respectively. The Huskies outrebounded Saint Martin's 55-33 and shot 45.3 percent from the field.
UW will open the regular season next Friday, Nov. 14 as it hosts South Carolina State at 7 p.m. at Alaska Airlines Arena.
