
Softball Adds Taryn Atlee To Roster

SEATTLE -- Rutgers University transfer Taryn Atlee has joined the Washington softball team for the 2018 season, head coach Heather Tarr announced Friday.
Atlee, a top-25 finalist for the 2017 Schutt Sports/NFCA National Freshman of the Year award, started all 51 games for the Scarlet Knights, including 34 at second base and 17 at shortstop. She was named First Team All-Big Ten and All-ECAC Second Team.
At the plate, she led the team in batting average (.393), hits (66) and triples (4) as Rutgers' leadoff hitter. Her 66 hits ranked second in the Big Ten and the second best single-season total in Rutgers program history.
The Sacramento, Calif., native attended Foothill High School where she was a four-year varsity athlete and three-time Foothill Knight MVP and Student-Athlete Award recipient. She was a member of the Orange County Batbusters' 14U PGF National Championship winning team.
Atlee's father Daryn, played basketball and baseball at Point Loma and San Jose State, played professional basketball and Japan. Her brother, Drake, played baseball at Cal State Northridge.
The sophomore will study journalism and wants to pursue a career in sports broadcasting and sideline reporting.
Atlee will also be a member of the Philippines National Team this summer. The team will play in the Canada Cup beginning July 11.
