Tarr, Aguilar Help Team USA Win Gold At Pan-Am
August 21, 2017 | Softball
SANTO DOMINGO, D.R. - With Husky Head Coach Heather Tarr on the bench and infielder Ali Aguilar playing second base, the USA Softball National Team won the Pan American Championship with a pair of run-rule victories over Team Canada and Team Mexico. Aguilar would drive in two runs in the championship game against Mexico with a home run in second inning. That was part of a nine-run inning, leaving the final score of the championship 9-0 in Team USA's favor.
"The team battled hard and competed pitch-to-pitch together to win the gold medal," said Tarr about the tournament win, which guaranteed Team USA a spot in the 2018 WBSC Women's Softball World Championship. "It was a great experience for the team as it secures the future opportunities for USA Softball to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics."
Team USA will next be off to Japan for the Japan Cup, which begins August 25 in Takasaki City. That tournament will feature the four highest-ranked teams in the world in Japan, the USA, Canada, and Australia.
