No. 25 Huskies Play Spoiler in 2-0 Win Over No. 22 Oregon State
November 09, 2018 | Men's Soccer
SEATTLE --- Blake Bodily scored his first goal in over a month and Ethan Bartlow added his first collegiate tally as No. 25 Washington beat No. 22 Oregon State 2-0 in the regular-season finale for both teams Friday night at Husky Soccer Stadium.,
The Huskies wrap up the regular season with a record of 12-7-0 riding a four-match winning streak as they wait to find out their NCAA Tournament fate on Monday. Washington also finishes third in the Pac-12 with a 6-4-0 conference mark. The Beavers, who could have clinched their first Pac-12 title with a win over UW, finishes the regular season at 10-5-3 and 6-3-1 in the conference.
Blake Bodily opened the scoring for the Huskies with a nice tally in the 44th minute. Luke Hauswirth sent in a long ball which Dylan Teves passed back to Bodily near the penalty spot. The sophomore then cracked a shot to the far right corner to make it 1-0. It was Bodily's first goal since Oct. 7, though he has been incredibly close on a number of chances over that stretch.
The Huskies added a big insurance goal in the 60th minute as Bartlow recorded his first collegiate goal. After a pair of chances inside the box were thwarted by the Oregon State defense, Washington made another attempt with Kyle Coffee finding the ball at his feet just outside the left side of the box. He took a hard shot which deflected off a defender and right to Bartlow on the right side. He would follow with a shot which took a deflection off a defender before finding the back of the net.
"I believe that Oregon State was the best team in the conference this year," said Head Coach Jamie Clark. "So, to get a resounding win is huge. But it takes moments and we created a lot of moments, but it still takes guys to convert those moments. Blake has had a lot of moments this year. To see him actually convert a big one--and probably one of the hardest one he's had--was fantastic. He deserves it and hopefully its the start of a real run of things for him. He was electric tonight. He has been whiskers away from being the best player on the west coast and he showed that tonight."
The Huskies' defense continued its impressive run over the last four matches, all of which have resulted in 2-0 victories. Washington has not allowed a goal in 376 minutes, posting four-straight shutouts for the first time since the 1996 season. In addition, the Huskies held the high-scoring Beavers' offense to just four shots in the game with just two on goal—its lowest shot total of the season.
Washington finds out its next opponent on Monday during the NCAA Selection Show broadcast on the NCAA.com beginning at 10:00 am. The Huskies, who are likely to earn their sixth trip to the NCAA Tournament in the last seven seasons, may have done enough to earn a first-round home game which would take place on Thursday, Nov. 15.
"We believe we've earned a home game and to keep this going at home, that's what we have to plan for and that's what we've got to try. No matter who we get, if we can game plan well enough for them, I think we will have a good chance."
