Dawgs Hold Off Broncos In Boise
April 20, 2018 | Beach Volleyball
BOISE, Idaho – Washington's No. 1 duo of Kimmy Gardiner and Jordan Anderson came up in the clutch today to deliver a 3-2 win for the Huskies at Boise State's home courts. The Dawgs got back to .500 on the year at 11-11 and have won the three meetings with the Broncos so far this year, with one more to go on Saturday.
Washington got straight set victories at the No. 1 spot, No. 3, and No. 4, while the Broncos got their first wins against UW in the three matches at No. 2 and No. 5. The Huskies were missing senior Courtney Schwan from her usual No. 2 spot, with freshman Emma Calle subbing in but with UW keeping the rest of its lineup intact.
With the match at 2-2, the No. 1 match was only getting started, so they played BSU's Walley and Roberts knowing their outcome would decide it. Both sets were close, but Anderson and Gardiner didn't flinch and won both sets, 21-19.
Carly DeHoog and Shayne McPherson won for the 11th time in their past 13 matches, defeating Bulda/Allen at No. 3, 21-18, 21-9. Kara Bajema and Anna Crabtree provided the first point with a 21-16, 21-16 win at No. 4 over Southwick/Hanses.
Calle and Julye came up short in their first match together at No. 2 by a 21-15, 21-15 score against Langley/Lewis. Boise State also won at No. 5, 26-24, 21-14, over Samantha Drechsel and Natalie Robinson. Robinson did team with Chloe Newton for a win in the exhibition match.
Tomorrow's final regular season match will start at 12 noon Pacific time.
