Huskies Open Alki Fall Classic With Strong Day One

SEATTLE – Washington Beach Volleyball opened its fall season Saturday with day one of the two-day Alki Fall Classic at Alki Beach, advancing three pairs into Sunday's Bid Division quarterfinals while also finding success in the Open Division.
In the Bid Division, No. 1 seed Hohenauer/Martinez opened championship bracket play with a straight-set win over Portland's Green/Munneke. Wilcock/Hsu followed with a three-set victory over Oregon's Slojkowski/Wilson, setting up an all-Washington quarterfinal between the two pairs Sunday at 9:45 a.m. on Court 1.
Brown/Hay also advanced with a 2-0 win over Boise State's Barnett/Neilson. The pair will take on Boise State's MacDonald/Wolden at 9:45 a.m. on Court 4 for a spot in the semifinals.
Pabarcus/Danielson also reached the championship bracket before falling in straight sets to Oregon's Gamache/Snipes.
Washington will therefore have three pairs still competing for one of the three available national championship bids on Sunday. With Hohenauer/Martinez and Wilcock/Hsu meeting in the quarterfinals, the Huskies are guaranteed at least one pair in the Bid Division semifinals.
In the Open Division, Heard/Towne advanced to the Gold Playoff semifinals after sweeping Boise State's Hayd/Purvis. They will face Boise State's Ellena/Roberts for a spot in the championship match. Hoge/Shaw also reached the Gold Playoffs before falling in straight sets to Boise State's Ihrig/Ingaramo.
Competition resumes on Sunday at Alki Beach. Bid Division quarterfinals begin at 9:45 a.m., followed by the semifinals at 12:15 p.m. and the championship match at 2:30 p.m.
