Both teams have been solid at home with Washington is 28-13 in games played in Seattle while Oregon holds a 29-16 edge in those games contested in Eugene. There have been 11 neutral site meeting with the Huskies winning six of those.
Oregon swept the season series last year, though both games were close contests. In Eugene, Amber Melgoza scored a Pac-12 record 23 points in the fourth quarter, finishing with 31 but the Huskies lost 94-83. The game in Seattle was also close with the Ducks pulling away late for the 76-63 victory.
Up Next
UW closes out its first road trip of the new season, traveling to Corvallis to take on No. 11 Oregon State at Gill Coliseum on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. The Huskies then return home to face Colorado and Utah next weekend.
Last Time Out
Washington rallied from a 16-point, first-half deficit and pulled within one late in the game, but a three-point attempt to tie the game in the final seconds rattled off as the Huskies lost their Pac-12 opener 79-76 to cross-town rival Washington State Sunday.
Amber Melgoza rebounded from a tough showing against Mississippi State her last time out with a 27-point performance while freshman Darcy Rees had the best game of her young UW career with 15 points and eight rebounds. Jenna Moser added 15 points for the Huskies on her 23rd birthday.
The Cougars owned much of the first half, using a 12-2 run to take a 16-point lead at 41-25 with 2:49 to go before the half. The Huskies responded with a long 14-2 run of their own to pull back within four and closed to within one early in the fourth quarter. The Cougars answered every UW bucket and held a six-point edge with 36 seconds left. Melgoza hit a pair of jumpers after that while the Cougars hit just 1-of-4 from the free throw line and the Huskies had a shot to tie the game with under nine seconds left. But Melgoza's three-point attempt in the closing seconds rattled off.
Amber Alert
Washington junior Amber Melgoza picked up right where she left off last year, averaging 19.2 points per game through the first 13 games of the season–sixth-best in the Pac-12. The junior saw her 24-game streak of scoring in double-figures come to an end vs Mississippi State on Dec. 20, but rebounded with a 27-point performance vs Washington State. It was her seventh game with 20+ points this season and 21st as a Husky.
Melgoza led the Pac-12 in scoring in conference games last season, averaging 20.6 ppg. She got off to a solid start this year with her 27-point performance against Washington State which is tied for the second-most in the Pac-12 this year.
Melgoza's off-season goal was to become a more well-rounded player and it shows as she also leads the team in assists (3.1/game) and is second in rebounds (5.3/game). She recorded her first career double-double against Northern Arizona on Nov. 11 with 20 points and 10 rebound, coming up two assists shy of a triple-double with a career-best eight helpers.

She finished the season with 570 points–11th most in program history and five points shy of the Top 10. In addition, Melgoza ended the season with 120 points over her final four games including pouring in 40 against Stanford–the most by a Pac-12 player on the season.
Melgoza on Ann Meyers Drysdale Watch List

The winner will be revealed on ESPN during the 2019 Women's Final Four in Tampa, Florida.
That Halftime Lead...
The score at halftime has gone a long way to determine the score at the end of the game for the Huskies. Since Coach Wynn took over last season, Washington is 14-4 when leading at the half but is 0-25 when tied or trailing at halftime. This season, the Huskies are 7-0 when leading at halftime, but are 0-6 when trailing at the break.
Darcy from Down Under
Darcy Rees had an impressive showing in her first-ever Pac-12 game, recording career-highs of 15 points and eight rebounds against Washington State. Rees connected on 7-of-14 from the field and had more offensive rebounds (6) than she had rebounds in any previous game this season. It was the third game in double-figures for the freshman from Adelaide, Australia, who is averaging 4.9 points and 3.6 rebounds. She had back-to-back 10 point games against Duke and Fordham at the Gulf Coast Showcase in Florida earlier this year.
Productive Peterson
After an injury-plagued freshman campaign, Missy Peterson has been solid during her sophomore season, averaging 10.2 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game. She averaged 14.6 ppg (73 total points) over a five-game stretch beginning with a 17-point performance against Duke at the Gulf Coast Showcase and has scored at least 17 points in four games this season. Those 73 points were more than she had all of last year (59).
Peterson struggled with injuries her freshman year as a lingering foot injury kept her off the court until just before the start of the season. After playing sparingly through 18 games last year, Peterson suffering a season-ending knee injury at Washington State on Jan. 17. After rehabbing during the off-season, she returned strong, but has been dealing with a nose injury through much of this season, wearing a custom mask to protect it.

The Huskies have been markedly better in shooting from the field this season, connecting on 40.8% through the first 13 games. Last season, Washington shot just 38.3% at the end of the season. Breaking it down even more, the Huskies rank 62nd among 351 NCAA DI teams in 2PT FG% at 48.8%. Washington is also among the nation's best free throw shooting teams, ranking third in the Pac-12 and 37th in the NCAA at 75.1% on the season.

Strength of Schedule

UW plays nearly half its schedule (13 games) against eight teams currently ranked in the AP Top 25 or receiving votes. In fact, the Huskies have the eighth-toughest schedule among the 353 NCAA DI programs when looking at the cumulative record of its opposition this season (273-92, .748). The Pac-12 conference boasts five teams in the AP Top 25 including four in the Top 15: #5 Oregon, #6 Stanford, #11 Oregon State, #18 California and #22 Arizona State with Utah and Arizona receiving votes. UW is currently in a tough stretch which sees the Huskies play three of four games against AP Top 15 teams. (#4 Miss. St, #5 Oregon, #11 Oregon State).
