Parish's Quick Brace Gives UW 3-1 Win at Oregon State
November 15, 2019 | Men's Soccer
CORVALLIS, Ore. --- Senior Joey Parish scored two goals in a 29-second span in the second half to break a tie and give No. 6 Washington a 3-1 win at Oregon State in the regular season finale for both teams Friday night.
Β
The Huskies wrap up the regular season with a 15-3-0 record and finish with an 8-2-0 mark in Pac-12 play after wrapping up their third Pac-12 Championship thanks to a Stanford loss last night. The Beavers fall to 8-6-2 and to 5-3-2 in the conference.
"So very proud of our seniors. Those guys have been so close a few times and in their final year willed us back to the top of the Pac-12," said UW Head Coach Jamie Clark. "While we won the title last night, our guys were determined to play well and finish the conference season with a win. We were focused and really worked so hard for each other."
Β
Parish's brace came quickly in the 78th minute on nearly identical plays. With the score tied at 1-1, Dylan Teves worked free on the near side, sending a high cross into the box where Parish sent it home. Off the restart, the Huskies won the ball back quickly and freshman Imanol Rosales was able to gather the ball and send it toward the goal where Parish again fired it to the back of the net. Both goals came just 29 seconds apart and put the game out of reach.
Β
It was the second career brace for Parish who doubled his goal total for the season in less than half a minute. His first brace came against Oregon State at home in 2017.
Β
Blake Bodily got the Huskies on the board with a goal in the 10th minute. Lucas Meek broke down the far side of the field and fired a low cross into the box where Bodily slid in for the finish. The goal was Bodily's 10th of the season as he becomes the first Husky to reach double-figures in goals since Brent Richards scored 10 in 2011 and the first Husky with 25 points (10g, 5a) since Ely Allen had 26 in 2007.
Β
In the 69th minute, the Beavers got that goal back as Loke Strenov cleaned up a scramble in the box for the close finish to even the score at 1-1.
Β
Washington came right back with a number of great chances including a chance by Parish right in front of the net in the 75th minute. But just three minutes later, Parish would score twice to put the game away.
Β
Freshman Sam Fowler got the win in goal to improve to 9-1-0 on the season.
Β
Washington's 15 wins are the most since the Huskies won 16 in 2013 and just the second time the team has won 15 or more matches since 2000.
Β
Next up for the Huskies will be the NCAA Tournament, where they are hoping to get high seed in the field of 48 teams announced on Monday at 10:00 a.m. Fans can catch the NCAA Selection Show live on NCAA.org.
