Huskies Fall In Seven Goal Thriller To No. 25 Oregon State

CORVALLIS, Ore. – No. 11 Washington scored three goals, but couldn't overcome a second half surge from No. 25 Oregon State on Sunday evening, falling 4-3.

The Huskies move to 2-2 on the season with the result.

In a relatively quiet first half, it was Egor Akulov who opened the scoring in the 29^th minute. The senior defender headed home an inch perfect cross from Alex Hall, putting the Huskies in front.

With two minutes remaining in the first half, Washington conceded a penalty to Oregon State, the Beavers first big chance of the match.

Stockton Short was equal to it, however. The transfer goalkeeper made a fantastic diving save to his left, preserving the Washington lead heading into the halftime break.

The Beavers found their footing in the second half. The hosts scored in the 47^th and 50^th minutes to take the lead.

Akulov was in his bag again in the second half. The captain brought Washington level in the 59^th minute, recording his first career brace.

It was Alex Hall again providing the crucial pass, making his second assist of the match.

Hall controlled the ball after a clearance on a corner kick. He sent it all the way to the far post where he found Akulov ready to strike.

Oregon State put two more goals in, again in quick succession. The Beavers took a 4-2 lead in the 67^th minute.

Osato Enabulele pulled Washington within one with his first goal of the season in the 81^st minute. Zack Meier found a slicing Cameron Cruz on the right flank who played it perfectly in to Enabulele on a tight angle in front of goal.

The second-year player roofed the ball, leaving no chance for the keeper.

Washington pushed on for the equalizer in the final nine minutes, but the fourth goal didn't come.

The two teams were evenly matched throughout the game. Washington had 13 shots to Oregon State's 14. The Huskies led with seven shots on target to the Beavers' five.

Washington had two more fouls than OSU, logging 13, and three more corner kicks than their opponent with 11.

Alex Hall led the team with three shots in addition to his two assists as he played 87 minutes of action.

Bertos, Akulov, Hestad, Meier, and Lofy each played the full 90. Layman, Lugton, Enabulele, and Fernandez each saw action off the bench in the match.

Washington returns to action on Thursday at against Cal State Fullerton at 7:30 p.m. at Husky Soccer Stadium.
