11th ANNUAL FEWING CUP COMES TO HUSKY SOCCER STADIUM
Washington welcomes cross-town rival Seattle U to Montlake for a Fewing Cup showdown on Wednesday evening. It's the 11th instance of the Fewing Cup, where Washington owns a 8-2 record in the annual competition under its current name. In the all-time series between the two programs, Washington owns a 50-9-6 advantage.
RAISING AWARENESS FOR SUDDEN CARDIAC ARREST
Wednesday's matchup marks the 6th annual DP Night, honoring the legacy of Daniel Phelps (#19), a UW Soccer alumnus, and raising awareness for Sudden Cardiac Arrest.
This year's DP Night carries added significance as we come together with Seattle U to remember Nick McCluskey (#4), a Seattle U soccer alumnus who, like Daniel, was taken too soon by Sudden Cardiac Arrest. Two rival programs, one shared mission this evening—honoring both Daniel's and Nick's legacies as we work to raise awareness and save lives.
HUSKIES TAKE DOWN NORTHWESTERN 2-1
The 14th ranked Washington men's soccer team trailed for 64 minutes Saturday night at Husky Soccer Stadium but a late surge from the Dawgs overturned the result Washington secured a 2-1 victory over Northwestern.
The Huskies needed just 36 seconds to turn defeat into victory over the Wildcats, scoring in the 81st and 82nd minutes to snag all three points on Montlake.
The two sides battled physically all night with little to separate them, finishing in a dead heat in total shots at 12-12. First year Noah Newman earned the win in his collegiate debut, coming on to start the second and recording three saves in a scoreless half.
Northwestern jumped ahead in the 17th minute on a spot kick after UW was called for a handball inside the 18. Aaron O'Reilly took the ball for the Wildcats, firing home to make it 1-0 in favor of the road side.
The Huskies grabbed momentum late in the half, piling on pressure a few minutes before the break. Though the finish to the half bore no fruit, it was an early prelude of what was to come.
The Dawgs continued to press on for the equalizer and with just under 10 minutes to play, finally broke through the deadlock the score at a goal apiece as Osato Enabulele met Zach Ramsey's corner service and bundled the ball over the line with his chest.
Mere moments later, Jake Goetting was brought down inside the 18, with VAR rewarding Washington a penalty on review.
From the spot, Ramsey slotted his 14th goal of the season neatly in the corner, sprinting to the corner flag and sliding into a mosh of his teammates as the late dramatics earned the Huskies three valuable points in the Big Ten table.
BIG TEN DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Egor Akulov has been named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Tuesday. It's the first defensive weekly honor for the Huskies this season and the second in Akulov's career.
UW's captain led the Huskies to three points in Big Ten play over the weekend, anchoring the backline that held Northwestern to four shots on frame and one goal allowed. The Dawgs secured a 2-1 victory, scoring twice in the second half to secure the win.
Akulov played all 90 minutes in the match to help the Huskies come from behind on Saturday night.
MAC HERMANN TROPHY MIDSEASON WATCHLIST
Zach Ramsey and Harrison Bertos have been named to the MAC Hermann Trophy Midseason Watchlist the United Soccer Coaches announced. The pair of star players for the Huskies are two of 30 players named to the prestigious award's watchlist.
Zach Ramsey has been arguably the best player in college soccer this season. He leads the nation in total goals (15), goals per game (1.36), total points (34), points per game (3.09), shots on goal per game (2.82), and penalty kicks (1.00). His 15 goals are the eighth-most in a season by a Husky, even with five games to play in the regular season.
After his iconic match winner in the national championship a season ago, Harrison Bertos has again shown his dominance on the pitch. He's helped Washington to four shutouts this year while also chipping in three goals, two of which have been match winners.
GOALS GALORE
Washington has been one of the highest scoring teams in the NCAA this season. The Huskies have bagged 32 goals, the seventh-most in the nation at a 2.67 clip, the seventh-best in the NCAA.
In six of Washington's seven victories, the Huskies have scored four goals.
Zach Ramsey leads the nation in total goals (15), goals per game (1.36), total points (34), points per game (3.09), shots on goal per game (2.82), and sits fifth in shots per game (4.45), and 14th in shot accuracy (.633). Ramsey's goal tally is the most by a Husky since Kevin Forrest bagged 16 in 2006 and tied for the eighth most in a single season by a Husky in program history.
RETURN TO THE RANKINGS
Washington entered the rankings again in week six after a four week hiatus. Two weeks ago, the Huskies jumped from an unranked squad to 15th in the United Soccer Coaches poll. Last week, the Dawgs moved up a spot to No. 14, and this week they climb one more to No. 13.
The Huskies just finished a stretch of four straight matches against ranked opponents, earning victories over No. 3 Ohio State and No. 22 Rutgers along with the draw against No. 19 Wisconsin before the 2-1 win over Northwestern.
All three of Washington's losses this season have come against ranked opponents (No. 18 San Diego, No. 25 Oregon State, No. 2 Indiana).
PICKING UP STEAM
Washington is displaying a dominant offense week in and week out. The Huskies sit in the top-20 in several key metrics, including first in corner kicks per game (8.25), penalty kicks (1.00), shots on goal per game (8.92), fourth in shots per game (18.00), seventh in total goals (32), seventh in scoring offense (2.67), eighth in total points (93), ninth in points per game (7.75), 10th in goal differential (17), 15th in shot accuracy (0.495), 16th in total assists (29), and 16th in assists per game (2.42).
FRESHMAN FIREPOWER
Jake Goetting has burst onto the scene for the Huskies. He's featured in nine games and logged 273 minutes, scoring his first goal against Ohio State. He's fired in 12 shots, the fifth-most of the team, including five on target.
Most recently, Goetting provided the unrecorded assist on the game-winning goal against Northwestern as he drew the foul inside the penalty box to set up Ramsey's winning strike.
TRANSFER POWER
Transfer players Stockton Short and Wyatt Lewis have made immediate impacts on Montlake, as both players have featured heavily this season.
Short, coming from Utah Tech, was selected by the Seattle Sounders in the 2026 MLS SuperDraft, but opted to come to Washington for his fifth year of college soccer. He's helped the Huskies to four shutouts this season, including his second solo shutout against Ohio State. Against Rutgers, Short made a season-high six saves to help preserve the 4-1 victory.
Lewis, from Notre Dame, has been a constant force in the midfield. He's played in all 12 games, starting in 11. He has one assist on the season but has had a far greater impact than the numbers show. He's played more than 80 minutes in nine games and has the third-most minutes played on the team.
SOPHOMORE STRENGTH
Jamie Clark has relied heavily on his second-year players this season. Zack Meier has been the go-to option at right back, starting each match and logging 948 minutes, the fourth-most on the team, trailing only Egor Akulov, Asher Hestad, and Wyatt Lewis.
Osato Enabulele has been showing off his versatility, playing both in the midfield and as a striker for Washington. The Texas native has played in all 12 matches with 10 starts and has four goals to his name.
Kevin Hernandez has also become a regular for the Huskies. He's played in all 12 matches with four starts and 599 total minutes of action. Like Enabulele, he's been used all around the pitch, even at defender. Hernandez has assisted two goals and has 11 shots, four of which have been on target.
HUSKY DEBUTS
11 Huskies have seen the field for the first time so far this season.Â
Emmett Layman, Callum Lugton, Nate Chandler, Ibrahim Rashad, Harper Mikolasy, Shaun Brun, and Kenny Pierpoint each made their Washington debuts against Gonzaga. Stockton Short, Wyatt Lewis, and Jake Goetting each got their first minutes against San Diego. Noah Newman made his Washington debut against Northwestern, playing the second half where he made two saves without conceding a goal.
PICKED TO TOP THE BIG TEN
The reigning national champions were tabbed the top team in the Big Ten this preseason as announced by the conference on Tuesday morning. Washington leads the way, followed by Maryland, Indiana, UCLA and Michigan in the top five.
It's no surprise the Huskies are picked as the top team in the conference. Washington is coming off its most successful season in history, which culminated with the 2025 national championship, the first title for the program.
FIVE HUSKIES SELECTED IN MLS SUPERDRAFT
Five Huskies were selected in the 2026 MLS SuperDraft, headlined by No. 8 overall selection Richie Aman by DC United. The MAC Hermann Trophy Finalist becomes the fifth Top-10 selection for the Huskies in the last five years.
Zach Ramsey was the second Husky off the board, going to the Vancouver Whitecaps at No. 17 in the first round. Joe Dale was next, going to the Seattle Sounders at the 51st overall pick in the second round.
Asher Hestad came off the board just five picks later, going to the Colorado Rapids with the 56th overall pick. Connor Lofy rounded out the draft class for the Huskies as he was selected with the 89th pick in the third round by Vancouver.
The five draft selections from Washington are the most of any team in the 2026 MLS SuperDraft. It's also the most draft picks Washington has had selected since 2022 when five Huskies were also picked. Of the five picks, three are returning to Washington for the 2026 season. Ramsey, Hestad, and Lofy will once again suit up for the Huskies this fall.
ROAD DAWGS
Washington is the only team in NCAA history to win the title after six consecutive tournament games away from home. The Huskies defeated Oregon State, SMU, Stanford, and Maryland all at their opponents' home fields before winning two neutral site matches in the College Cup. The Huskies became just the second team ever to advance to the College Cup after four road victories in the NCAA Tournament in 2025. UMBC was the first to achieve the feat in 2014, ultimately falling in the semifinal round to Virginia.
HOMEGROWN TALENT
Washington's roster features 20 of 29 players who hail from the state of Washington. Four players claim Seattle as their hometown (Asher Hestad, Noah Newman, Cameron Cruz, and Jaeger Felton), two are from Redmond (Egor Akulov and Zach Ramsey) and two others call Kirkland home (Zack Meier and Connor Lofy).
Of Washington's nine out of state players, four hail from California (Nate Chandler, Jake Goetting, Nick O'Brien, and Ibrahim Rashad), and one each from Oregon (Callum Lugton), Massachusetts (Harrison Bertos), Utah (Stockton Short), Texas (Osato Enabulele), and Missouri (Wyatt Lewis).
POSTSEASON REGULARS
Washington has become a common name in the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament. In the last 15 years, the Huskies have reached the tournament 12 times. Washington is also one of three teams to reach the College Cup twice in the last five years (Notre Dame & Clemson).
Only Washington and Clemson have reached the championship game twice in the last five years.
CREAM OF THE CROP
In 15 seasons on Montlake, Jamie Clark has orchestrated the meteoric rise of Washington men's soccer, distinguishing the team as one of the nation's top college soccer programs. Clark has led the Huskies to a record of 197-75-43, three Pac-12 titles, 12 trips to the NCAA Tournament and a national championship in 2025. Of those postseason appearances, Clark's Huskies have made five trips to the NCAA Quarterfinals, including three straight NCAA Quarterfinals appearances from 2019-21 and two College Cup runs in 2021 and 2025.
Clark currently ranks eighth in winning percentage among active head coaches with a .696 percentage and is in his 19th season.
