February 08, 2019 | Women's Tennis
SEATTLE --- The Washington women's tennis team lost to No. 2 Vanderbilt 4-0 on Friday afternoon at Nordstrom Tennis Center in the first match of the ITA National Team Indoor Championships. The Huskies suffered their first loss of the season and currently stand at 5-1 through six matches.
"Credit to Vanderbilt," said head coach Robin Stephenson. "They played extremely well and I was impressed by their team today. We know we can be better and we will be better. We have to be more consistent and become tougher competitors. Matches like this can only help us get to where we want to go this year. I am proud of this team and they will be ready to lay it on the line when we get our next opportunity this weekend."
Due to impending weather in the area, the match was moved up to a 12 p.m. start with singles beginning play instead of doubles.
The Commodores lived up to their national ranking as they won four singles matches to advance to the quarterfinals of the championship. All six Vanderbilt singles players were ranked inside of the ITA Top 100.

The Commodores would extend the lead to 2-0 as 42nd ranked Georgia Drummy defeated junior Katarina Kopcalic 6-1, 6-3.
Senior Stacey Fung fell to Fernanda Contreras, who came into the matched ranked third in the country, 4-6, 0-6 to give Vanderbilt a 3-0 lead.
