Huskies Drop Duals To No. 2 Trojans, No. 12 Bears

STANFORD, Calif. – Destiny Julye and Kristen Gengenbacher picked up another win today at the No. 1 spot but Washington was unable to score an upset on the sand at Stanford today, dropping a 5-0 decision to No. 2 USC and a 4-1 match against No. 12 California to wrap up the Pac-12 North Invitational.

Julye and Gengenbacher finished the weekend 2-2 at the No. 1 spot as they beat Stanford's top pair yesterday and today defeated Cal's Mirkovic and Polo, 15-21, 21-19, 15-11. With the top two matches played first, the Huskies had a chance to take a 2-0 lead on the Bears, but Kara Bajema and Shayne McPherson came up short in a third set in the No. 2 match against Micheletti/Schafer, 18-21, 21-12, 15-7.

The Bears won the 3-4-5 matches all in straight sets.

In the first match of the day, the Huskies were taking on a fired up Trojans team that just came off an upset win over No. 1 UCLA.

USC controlled all first sets before the Huskies made it closer in most of the second sets, but only one match went to a third, and USC came out on top in that one. It came at No. 5, where sophomore Chloe Newton and freshman Callie Weber fell to Dorn/Martin, 21-16, 16-21, 15-11.
