Niece, Yerex Win Silver Bracket At Corban

SALEM, Ore. – Senior Avie Niece and junior Hannah Yerex took the silver bracket title with a 3-0 day as the Huskies wrapped up their second two-day tourney at Corban University in Salem.
Washington went up against Boise State and Oregon today in bracket competition. Niece and Yerex opened with a win over a Boise State pair and then defeated Oregon's Rothstein/Plevin in the semis, 23-21, 21-19. In the final they took on another Oregon pair, Schroeder and Wetton, and cruised to a 21-13, 21-14 win.
In the gold bracket, Shayne McPherson and Chloe Loreen reached the final again, after having won the previous Corban Pairs Tournament. They came up one set short today, falling to Boise State's Martin/Wilson in the final, 21-19, 13-21, 15-8.
McPherson and Loreen had to play teammates Scarlett Dahl and Natalie Robinson in the semis. McPherson and Loreen pulled out the three setter, 16-21, 21-11, 15-10. Dahl and Robinson had defeated BSU's Chartier/Mejia in the quarterfinal, 21-19, 21-17.
Cassidy Schilling and Callie Weber also made the semifinals of the silver bracket.
Washington is back to dual play next week with the Pac-12 North Invitational, which was originally going to be hosted by Stanford but has relocated to Phoenix, Ariz. and is now hosted by Arizona State.
