
Day One Of The Husky Invitational Ends 3-0

Seattle, Washingtonย โ Day one of the Husky Invitational was a success for the Washington Beach Volleyball team. For the first, and only, time this season the Huskies played in front of a home crowd. The Dawgs took full advantage of the home turf, sweeping both Portland and Oregon, and beating Boise State 3-2. Washington secured the No. 1 seed in the tournament to set themselves up for day two.ย

Tomorrow, Washington will play Portland in the semifinals at 10 am and hopefully will secure their spot in the championship match at 2:20pm. The Championship match will begin after the Senior ceremony that will take place at 2pm to celebrate Husky seniors Chloe Loreen, Natalie Robinson, Teagan DeFalco, Mary Sinclair, Paloma Bowman, and Hannah Yerex.ย

Portland
ย
To start the day off, the Huskies took on the Portland Pilots. All the pairs took to the courts at the same time for the first home match of the season. The Huskies made quick work with all pairs winning the first set.ย

The first pair to finish was the No. 1 pair Natalie Robinson and Chloe Loreen who took on Portland's Valenti/Stammberger. Washington won the first set 21-15, followed by a dominant 21-9 second set win.ย
ย
On court two, Kendall Mather and Piper Monk-Heidrich took on Harris/Helm. The pair won 21-19, 21-15. To follow it up, on court three Paloma Bowman and Scarlett Dahl defeated Zilbert/Baker 21-16, 21-13 to secure the duel win for the Huskies.ย

To finish it up, on court four Teagan DeFalco and Mary Sinclair took on Portland's Larsson/Helle. Washington won 21-14, 21-16. To close it out, Shannon Gormally and Hannah Yerex beat Lee/Mumolo 21-11, 21-16 at pair No. 5 to secure the first sweep of the day.

The Dawgs took on the Oregon Ducks for the second time this season. Looking for another victory, the Huskies were eager for the battle. Pairs four and five took to the courts first.ย

With a lineup change at No. 5, Maeve Griffin and Hannah Yerex took on Plevin/McCaskill. This was the first time this Washington pair played together. Starting it off strong, the Huskies won 21-18, 22-20 to put the first point on the board.ย

On court No. 4 Teagan DeFalco and Mary Sinclair played Schroeder/George. The Huskies dropped the first set 19-21 but followed it up by winning the second 21-14. The Huskies prevailed in the tiebreak 15-9.ย

Next up for the Dawgs were pairs No. 1, 2 and 3. Pair No. 3 Scarlett Dahl and Paloma Bowman showed their dominance by beating Rotshtein/Peterson 21-10, 21-13 to secure the duel win for the Huskies. To follow it up, pair No. 1 Natalie Robinson and Chloe Loreen took on Brown/Almsnza and won 21-17, 21-19.

Boise Stateย
For the last match of the day the Huskies faced Boise State. Pairs 4 and 5 took to the courts first.ย
At pair No. 5, a new pair in the lineup, Shannon Gormally and Maeve Griffin took on Benson/Aris Vetter. The Dawgs won the first set 21-18ย but Boise State responded by winning the second 21-19. Boise State prevailed in the tiebreak beating the Huskies 15-13. To tie it up, pair No. 5 Teagan DeFalco and Mary Sinclair took care of business against Wolthuis/Mejia, beating them 21-13, 21-18.ย
Next to take to the courts were pairs No. 1,2 and 3. On court 3, Huskies Paloma Bowman and Scarlett Dahl fell short to Guerra-Acuna/Patock 19-21, 19-21. To give Boise State their second point. On court one, Natalie Robinson and Chloe Loreen took on Chartier/Land. The Huskies won the first set 21-18 and worked themselves into a battle in the second, ending with a 28-26 Husky win. This tied up the duel to two points apiece.
To finish up the day, on court two Kendall Mather and Piper Monk-Heidrich took on O'Neil/Anderson. The Huskies dominated the game winning 21-4, 21-14 to secure the match win for Washington.ย
