Ladine Drains Career-High 40, Huskies Earn First Big Ten Win Over Northwestern
December 28, 2024 | Women's Basketball
EVANSTON, Ill. – Elle Ladine's career-high 40 points guided Washington to its first victory in the Big Ten Conference on Saturday afternoon, as the Huskies defeated Northwestern 90-71 inside Welsh-Ryan Arena.
In the third all-time meeting between these two teams, Washington (10-4, 1-1 Big Ten) used its third 90+ point game of the season to hand Northwestern (7-6, 0-2 Big Ten) its second conference loss in as many games.
Ladine's 40-point performance was tied for the most points by a Big Ten player this season, and the most by a Husky since Amber Melgoza dropped 40 against Stanford in 2018. She became just the fourth Husky to reach 40.
26 of Ladine's 40 came in the first half, besting her previous career-high of 24 that she reached last season in the first 20 minutes of action. She did it on an efficient 60 percent shooting from the field and from the three-point line, going 15-for-25 from the field and 6-of-10 from beyond the arc on the way to a career-best six triples.
The junior also matched a career-best and game-high six assists, three rebounds, and two steals.
Dalayah Daniels had herself a night as well, notching her first 20-point game of the season to go along with a season-high 15 rebounds.
Daniels' 20 came on an efficient 8-of-12 shooting, as the forward also delivered three assists and three steals.
Hannah Stines was the third Husky in double digits, recording 10 points, five assists, two rebounds, and two steals.
The Huskies outscored the Wildcats in all four quarters, gaining a three-point edge to conclude the first frame up 25-22.
14 of Ladine's career-high came in the opening quarter when she shot 6-for-9 and Washington as a team shot 55 percent.
The Huskies upped their offensive efficiency from first to second, connecting on 8-of-14 field goals (57.1 percent) to take a 46-38 lead heading into halftime.
Daniels nearly recorded a double-double in the third quarter alone, finishing the third with 11 of the Huskies' 23 points and eight rebounds.
UW outscored Northwestern by 11 overall in the second half to run away to a 90-71 victory in its first Big Ten road contest.
The Dawgs converted 17 Northwestern turnovers into a season-high 33 points and outscored the Wildcats 28-8 in fast break points.
Washington dished out a season-high 25 assists and turned the ball over just 10 times, the second fewest this season.
Washington also connected on 10 threes, the fourth time this season the Huskies have hit 10 or more and tied for the second highest mark this year from three-point range (41.7 percent).
Washington will head down to Champaign, Ill. for its final game of 2024 to face Illinois on December 31. The game will tipoff at 10 a.m. PT on Big Ten Network.
