
Huskies Win 6-2 At FGCU

FORT MYERS, Fla. – No. 4 Washington won its fifth in a row after a 6-2 victory at Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday afternoon. The Huskies move to 7-1 on the season.
Lopez (3-0) got the start in the circle and threw 4.2 inning with a season-high six strikeouts to earn her third win. She faced three over the minimum. Peters came in relief and struck out three in the final 2.1 frames.
The Huskies got on the board early after Rylee Holtorf hit a one out double and Sydney Stewart followed with a walk. Holtorf was driven on an Alana Johnson single for the first run of the contest.
Washington tacked on a run in the second when Brooklyn Carter recorded a two out single and Jillian Celis brought her in on a high-flying double to left field to take a 2-0 lead.
Brooke Nelson doubled the lead with her first home run of the season in the top of the third. Carter reached on a fielder's choice and stole second for her ninth stolen base of the year. She came around to score on an error. Johnson drove in her second run of the game on single give the Huskies a 6-0 advantage.
Florida Gulf Coast brought across an unearned run in the sixth. The Eagles added a run in the seventh to bring the score to its final, 6-2.
The Dawgs had their fourth double-digit hit contest of the season – recording 11 hits tonight. All four games have come within the last five contests.
Washington is back in action tomorrow in DeLand, Fla. for a midweek matchup at Stetson. First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. PT/3:30 p.m. ET.
