BERKELEY, Calif. – No. 8 Washington softball dropped the series finale to No. 20 Cal on Sunday afternoon, 4-3. The Huskies move to 30-8 on the season and 12-6 in conference play.

Brooke Nelson got the start in the circle, going two innings with a run allowed. Ruby Meylan (9-5) came on in relief and threw the final frames with two hits allowed and an earned run with two strikeouts.

Nelson got the game started at the plate with her third home run in the last three plate appearances to give the Huskies the early lead in the top of the first.

Cal responded with a solo home run of their own in the bottom of the inning.

Washington added a run in the second on a Giselle Alvarez single that allowed Sydney Stewart to come home on the throw.

The Golden Bears took the lead in the third on a pair of runs to make it 3-2.

The Huskies tied the game in the sixth on heads up base running with a delayed double steal by Stewart and pinch runner Jing Gardner.

Cal walked off the game in the seventh to take the series finale.

With a home run this afternoon, Washington has hit at least one home run in 11 consecutive games. The team has notched 25 homers over that span.

The Huskies return home for the final time during the regular season for a Top 10 matchup with Stanford. The three-game series begins on Friday, April 26 and concludes on Sunday, April 28 with our senior day celebration.
