Alvarez Walks Off Game One Of Columbia Regional

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Giselle Alvarez brought in Alana Johnson in the bottom of the seventh inning as No. 13 Washington entered the winner's bracket of the Columbia Regional following an 8-7 win over Indiana on Friday afternoon at Mizzou Softball Stadium.
Sidne Peters picked up the win in relief to move to 8-0 on the season. Lindsay Lopez got the start, going 4.2 innings with two strikeouts.
The middle of the order accounted for eight of the 11 hits for the Huskies. A. Johnson led the way, going 3-for-4 with an RBI and two doubles. Kinsey Fiedler tallied a pair of hits with two RBI and a triple.
Washington brought the first runs across in the second inning on a double from A. Johnson and a sacrifice fly by Fiedler to go up 2-0.
Indiana brought in the run in the top of the fourth on an infield single by Aly VanBrandt to cut the Washington lead in half.
Back-to-back extra base hits by A. Johnson (double) and Fiedler (triple) to lead off the fourth brought the Huskies lead back to two. Sydney Stewart followed with a single through the left side to make it 4-1.
Indiana took the lead in the fifth with four runs in the inning. The Hoosiers added a run in the sixth on a solo homer for the 6-4 advantage.
The Huskies re-took the lead, 7-6, in the sixth as Olivia Johnson singled down the left field line to score Fiedler and pinch runner Jing Gardner. Brooklyn Carter reached on a fielder's choice and Avery Hobson came around to score on a pair of errors in that same play.
Indiana tied the game with two outs in the top of the seventh on an RBI double by Avery Parker.
With a pair of runners on, Alvarez hit the walk-off winner out to left field.
Up next, the Huskies will face the winner of the Missouri and Omaha contest on Saturday afternoon. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. PT and streaming will be announced at a later time.
