
Washington Puts Up Tough Fight, Drops To Cardinal Friday Night

PALO ALTO, Calif. — The No. 22 Washington women's basketball team (9-2, 0-1 Big Ten) fought to the finish in a 67-62 loss to Stanford (10-2, 1-0 ACC) Friday night in Maples Pavilion.
The battle featured contributions across the board from the Huskies, who had five different players finish in double figures. Washington outrebounded Stanford, 36 to 29, and used its 13 offensive rebounds to record 15 second-chance points.
Additionally, UW held the home side to its fourth-lowest point total (67) and 3-point percentage (23.1%) on the season.
In a homecoming for Elle Ladine, she finished the contest with 11 points on 5-for-6 shooting with six rebounds. She had over 200 friends and family members from her San Francisco community in attendance Friday night, and they erupted in a huge roar when she drilled a 3-pointer late in the fourth quarter to tie the game for the Huskies.
Junior guard Sayvia Sellers finished tied for the team's lead in scoring, notching 13 points and three assists. She was efficient in the second half, knocking down four of her eight shots for 10 points.
Sophomore guard Avery Howell matched Sellers' point total, recording three 3-pointers and eight rebounds.
Freshman forward Brynn McGaughy was all over the glass in Maples Pavilion, pulling in a career-high nine rebounds and 11 points. Friday marked her sixth double-digit point effort of the season.
Up next, Washington stays in Northern California for a meeting with Pacific on Sunday, Dec. 21 at 1 p.m. This will be the final non-conference game of the season.
