SEATTLE β The No. 21 Washington women's tennis team (7-1) will kick off Big Ten play with a cross-country trip, starting with Maryland on Friday, March 7 at 1 p.m.
The Dawgs will then face No. 74 Rutgers in Piscataway, New Jersey on Sunday, March 9 at 9 a.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Dawgs are on a six-match winning streak, picking up two tough wins at San Diego State and San Diego.
This will be the first battle in the Big Ten for the Huskies, who are led by No. 85 Alexia Jacobs and Reece Carter at No. 1 doubles. The Dawgs have won the doubles point in seven of their eight matches, with No. 3 doubles picking up six straight wins (Catherine Gagnon/McKenna Koenig and Carina Syrtveit/Koenig).
Syrtveit was recognized as Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Feb. 26 after recording a 3-1 record against the San Diego schools. The freshman clinched the doubles point in both outings with Koenig.
This was the first conference honor of the season for Washington.
SCOUTING REPORT β MARYLAND
The Terrapins are 7-5 this season and coming off a split weekend β losing to Old Dominion and then defeating Norfolk State 4-0.
Maryland and Washington last faced off in 2011 and this is the second all-time meeting between the two schools.

Rutgers is 6-2 to start the season, most recently sweeping army 4-0.
This is the first time Rutgers and Washington have met.
