Washington Extends Win Streak To Seven, Downs Oregon 4-2 At Home

SEATTLE – The Washington women's tennis team (16-2, 8-1 Big Ten) extended its winning streak to seven Saturday afternoon with a 4-2 win over the Oregon Ducks on a beautiful day on Montlake.
With the win over the Ducks today and eighth conference win of the year, the Dawgs tied the most league wins in a season since 2019.
Doubles flew for the Huskies as both teams that helped clinch the doubles point won handily. The 51st-ranked Reece Carter and Alexia Jacobs duo won 6-0 before McKenna Koenig and Carina Syrtveit clinched the point with a 6-0 winner of their own.
Sophie Luescher and Erika Matsuda were up 5-2 on the second doubles court when the match was clinched.
Matsuda added the first singles match to the win column for the Huskies, defeating Karin Young in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2.
Syrtveit lost on court six to Oregon's Juliet Santitto, pulling the Ducks withing one.
Luescher earned her 13th singles win of the season with a win on court five over her former team, defeating Oregon's Candela Aparisi 6-2, 7-5.
Tilde Jagare kept it interesting for the Ducks with a lopsided first two sets with Jacobs on court three, as she dropped the first set 1-6 to the sophomore before winning two straight to slim the UW lead to 3-2.
Koenig won a first set 6-2 on the fourth court before Patsy Daughters evened things out with a 6-3 win of her own. Koenig gave up nothing in the third set, shutting down Daughter 6-0 to clinch the 4-2 win over Oregon and sixth straight conference victory for the Dawgs.
"After yesterday's win against Pepperdine, that definitely gave us a lot of confidence," Koenig said. "Just because they [Pepperdine] are an outdoor team, they don't have an indoor facility – when we won against a really good outdoor team, that definitely gave us a lot of confidence for today. We can play indoors, outdoors, when it's hot, when it's cold, windy, whatever. The one thing I know for certain is that we are always going to be very consistent as to how we compete and show up every day."
The Huskies hit the road for a big weekend at Michigan State and Michigan next weekend.
