UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Washington softball opened the series with a 9-5 nine inning win over Penn State on Friday at Nittany Lion Softball Park.

The Huskies improve to 33-15 and 11-8 in the Big Ten.

Sophia Ramuno (10-5) got the start, going 4.2 innings with two runs allowed and three strikeouts to pick up her 10th win of the season. Rylee Rehbein came on in relief, tossing 2.1 frames with three strikeouts and three runs allowed. Ramuno re-entered in the bottom of the eighth and added two more strikeouts to bring her tally to five on the evening.

After three scoreless innings, Washington broke through with three runs in the fourth. Alycia Flores had a one-out double and a groundout advanced her to third. A passed ball allowed Flores to score for the first run of the game. Charity Sevaaetasi followed with her first career triple and Sophi Mazzola brought her in on her fifth home run of the season for a 3-0 advantage.

Penn State cut into the Husky lead with a solo home run in the bottom half of the inning. The Nittany Lions added a run in the fifth.

Jade Bubke led off the seventh with a double and came around to score on Jadyn Glab's 10th double of the season. With runners on second and third following an Alexis DeBoer reach on error and stolen base, Flores grounded out to bring in Glab for 5-2 lead.

Penn State tied the game with a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings.

Three walks loaded the bases with one out in the ninth, Flores followed with a walk of her own to give the Huskies the lead. Back-to-back-to-back singles by Giselle Alvarez, Sevaaetasi and Mazzola brought in three more runs for the 9-5 advantage.
