Huskies Fall To No. 4 Denver In Season-Opening Match

DENVER, Colo. – Washington opened the 2025 season with a 2-0 defeat against No. 4 Denver on Thursday night. With the win, the Pioneers take a 4-3-3 lead in the all-time series between the two teams.
The Huskies fall to 0-1, dropping the season-opening match for only the third time under the direction of head coach Jamie Clark.
In an even first 45 minutes, neither team was able to take the lead. The first shots on goal for either side came in the 40th minute for the Huskies in quick succession.
Freshman forward Clarens Dollin controlled the ball in the box, launching a shot at the Denver goal, forcing a save by the goalkeeper. Richie Aman came in possession of the rebound and fired a second shot which also required a save to keep the game scoreless.
Out of the halftime break, the Pioneers jumped in front. Denver scored in the 49th minute to take the lead. In the 62nd, the added a second.
The Huskies applied offensive pressure throughout the game and topped the Pioneers in total shots, 10-7. Washington also tallied five corners in the game, trailing the hosts by one.
Charlie Kosakoff led all Huskies in the game with three shots. Connor Lofy, Joe Dale, Richie Aman, and Jadon Bowton each went the distance, playing the full 90 minutes in the match.
The Huskies return to action with another challenging contest at Oregon State on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. Washington will then open the home slate on August 28 when it hosts UC Davis at Husky Soccer Stadium.
