
Huskies Stay Hot, Take Down Gonzaga 6-0

SEATTLE – Washington continued its winning ways on Tuesday, collecting a third consecutive win. The Huskies dismantled Gonzaga 6-0 to improve to 4-2-2 on the season.
Washington has now gone six games unbeaten, collecting four wins and two draws during that stretch.
The six goals on Tuesday night pushed Washington to 23 on the season, tying the Huskies with Lindenwood University for the most goals in the NCAA this season.
Tuesday's thrashing was the latest onslaught of goals the Dawgs have unleashed on their opponents.
In three of Washington's four wins this season, the Huskies have scored four goals or more. In five of Washington's last six games, the Dawgs have put at least two in the back of the net.
Washington applied the pressure from the first whistle, forcing Gonzaga into difficult tackles and defensive positions. In the 23rd minute, Terry Watson collected his first yellow before picking up his second seven minutes later.
On the ensuing free kick and with the Zags down a man, Charlie Kosakoff began the scoring. He delivered a perfect free kick to the far corner of the goal, scoring his third goal in the last two games and his fourth of the season.
The Huskies maintained the one goal advantage into the break and then opened the flood gates in a six-minute span of game time.
The second-half flurry began with back-to-back goals from Alex Hall. The midfielder scored on a deep ball from the left flank in the 52nd minute and bagged his brace just 70 seconds later.
In the 56th minute, two minutes after Washington opened a 3-0 lead, Richie Aman weighted a ball precisely to the foot of Zach Ramsey. The Redmond native took a touch into the Gonzaga penalty box and slotted it home past the keeper.
In the 57th minute, Mani Diop extended the lead to five. A corner kick sent in by Richie Aman found the head of Egor Akulov, who headed it along. Diop found the ball in the air with an acrobatic right foot strike to add to the goal tally.
Two minutes later, Chad Sovde scored the final goal for the Huskies, finishing off a perfect pass from Alex Hall.
In total, the Huskies had 19 shots, 15 of which were on goal, against Gonzaga's four shots and two on target. The Huskies forced eight saves from the Bulldog keeper against two for Levi Bieber, who earned his second clean sheet of the season.
Alex Hall led the Huskies with five total points (2g, 1a) and Richie Aman with two assists to go along with individual goal efforts from Ramsey, Kosakoff, Diop, and Sovde.
Asher Hestad made his first career start in the game, featuring for 57 minutes. Nick O'Brien joined Hestad in the starting XI, making his first appearance this season.
The Huskies used plenty of substitutes on Tuesday, with Philip Kleeman, Clarens Dollin, Carter Gay, Kevin Hernandez, Zack Meier, Cameron Cruz, Osato Enabulele, Sheehan Ganguly, and Brecken Bowers each playing at least 25 minutes. Jaeger Felton also took over in goal for the final 10 minutes of action, helping earn the combined shutout.
Washington returns to action on Saturday with its second Big Ten match of the season. The Huskies host Michigan for a 7 p.m. kickoff at Husky Soccer Stadium.
