Huskies Make First Moves At Seattle U. Dual
September 02, 2025 | Cross Country
SEATTLE – Washington's 2025 cross country season is officially up and running, as the Huskies took part in their annual Dual Meet with Seattle U. Tuesday was report day for the distance Dawgs, and UW celebrated with lots of laps around the meadow in the middle of Magnuson Park before heading off to Suncadia for the team's big fall training block.
Today's race was all about knocking the rust off, but as far as scoring was concerned, the Huskies easily won both the men's and women's races.
In the men's 8,800-meter race, a group of four Dawgs went off early and ran together throughout. That top four came across the line together in 26-minutes, 52-seconds, and was made up of Isaac Briggs, Parker Mong, Jamar Distel, and Thom Diamond. The fifth finisher was second-year Husky Martin Barco who crossed in 27:39.
The women had a large group racing in uniform today and seven of them ran together throughout and crossed the finish line as one big pack. Those seven included Mia Cochran, Julia David-Smith, Josephine Welin, Sam Tran, Ella Borsheim, Maeve Stiles, and Chloe Foerster. They all finished in 18:24 or 18:25 for the 5,400-meter course.
Three new Dawgs also crossed together in 10th through 12th all running 18:55. That group included Abby DeVeau, Annika Carlson, and Isabel Olsen. Brianna McInnis was 13th in 19:12.
The Huskies were ranked preseason No. 8 on the women's side and No. 21 on the men's side. Washington's first race against a full field will come a month from now, on Oct. 3, at the Loyola Lakefront Invite in Chicago.
