Washington alumnus Chris Carlson '19, who won gold and bronze medals at 2026 World Rowing Championships, has been named Male Athlete of the Year by USRowing, the governing body announced today.
Â
Carlson, from Bedford, N.H., rowed in the three seat in the United States men's four that won gold at World Championships this past August in Amsterdam, right behind fellow former Husky Pieter Quinton in the stroke seat. Carlson also rowed in the U.S. mixed eight, earning the bronze.
Â
The 2018 Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year, Carlson began his rowing career at Marist College before transferring to UW. He won two Pac-12 titles in the Huskies' varsity eight, and also earned two silver medals at IRAs.
Â
Carlson earned a bronze medal in the U.S. men's eight at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. That crew featured four Husky alumni and was coached by UW men's head coach Michael Callahan.
Â
USRowing's Male and Female Athletes of the Year are selected by the athletes and coaches who competed on the national team over the past season. Carlson will be presented with his award at a ceremony in New York in November.
