LOS ANGELES – Washington's Alexia Jacobs punched a ticket the NCAA Singles Championship with her win at the ITA Sectionals Championship at David X. Marks Stadium.
In her quarterfinals match, Jacobs faced Cal's Laura Cilekova and won in straight sets, 6-0, 7-5, to earn her first NCAA Singles Championship appearance. Jacobs went last season in doubles.
Later in the day, Jacobs and Marie Weissheim teamed up in the doubles quarterfinals against Arizona State's Sara Svetac/Lily Taylor. The Sun Devils won the closely contested first set, 6-4. Washington came back in the second set in a tiebreak fashion to force a third set tiebreak, winning 7-6(6). ASU came out on top in the tiebreak 10-3 to secure one of the three spots up for grabs to NCAAs.
Jacobs and Weissheim still have a chance at qualifying for the NCAA doubles championship as they will face Cal's Naomi Xu/Mao Mushika in the doubles 3-4 playoff at 10 a.m. PT. Fans can follow along with scoring and a live stream on the ITA Sectional tournament page.
